OT Therapy is a branch of healthcare/rehabilitation that helps individuals of all ages who have Physical, Sensory, and/or Cognitive challenges.
OT helps individuals regain independence in all areas of their lives. OT's help with barriers that affect the individual's Emotional, Social, and Physical needs.
Cognition is the mental action or process of acquiring knowledge and understanding through Thought, Experience, and Senses.
Cognitive Coaching is facilitating the understanding of such experiences through Inquiry, Exploration, and Mind Empowerment.
OT assists with positioning and handling of babies by collaborating with caregivers, with providing guidance in the recommendation of developmentally-appropriate toys and nursery room recommendations, and orienting the parent to community resources and preparation for transition into educational centers.
With school-age children, along with promoting handwriting, OT addresses sensory regulation and promotes attention, as well as collaborates with parents and educators to support the child's success in their natural (learning) environment.
With adolescents and young adults transitioning from a rehabilitation center, OT's assist the former patient by promoting their Independence, Executive Functioning skills, and Community Re-Integration.
